What It’s About:  CMON and Eric Lang give their miniature treatment to RPG Trudvang Chronicles, transforming it into a storytelling-based board game adventure with combat.

How It Works: Trudvang is played as a concurrent path of storylines, where playing currently available chapters opens up later chapters. At its heart, the Trudvang is primarily focused on narrative exploration and storytelling. Each game is divided into Phases, represented by the Phase Cards on the Adventure board. At the beginning of your campaign, the two starting Phase Cards are Travel and Discover. Additional Phase Cards (and Phases) will unlock over the course of gameplay. During Travel, players will move their characters around the board. During Discover, they’ll interact with 1 element in their current region. At the start of the campaign, these elements are: Interest Points, World Cards, Other Heroes, and Enemies. Evaluating an Interest Point will reveal a Story Card and potentially present the player with a Test. Evaluating a World Card means the player will place it into one of the sleeves attached to the board, and they usually represent major changes or discoveries affecting the world. Interacting with other Heroes means they can exchange Upgrade Cards related to Any Class (so not any class-specific Upgrade Cards). And finally, interacting with Enemies means Combat. Combat generally involves drawing Runes from the Rune Bag and attempting to match them with that Hero’s specific Rune Slots (Tests operate similarly, if not quite exactly the same way). Each chapter or scenario ends based on variable end conditions, and usually involved branching storyline choices that will then lead to the next path in the campaign.

Comparisons:  Any of the big story-telling, exploration-based games with tons of miniatures from CMON and Awaken Realms: games like Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, Etherfields. To a somewhat lesser degree, games like The 7th Continent, Waste Knights, and Ryan Laukat’s currently running Kickstart for Sleeping Gods.

What Should I Pledge?:
$100 Legendary Pledge: includes Trudvang Legends, the exclusive Tolgjar Hero, and all applicable stretch goals.

Add-Ons:
$145 Adventurers Set: include the Westmark, Darkwoods, Muspelhelm, & Thorn Beast Expansions, plus the Plastic Runes (the package is $15 cheaper than buying them all separately, so you’re essentially getting the Plastic Runes for free)
$45 Westmark Expansion
$35 Darkwoods Expansion
$45 Muspelhelm Expansion
$20 Thorn Beast Expansion
$50 Trudvang Chronicles: a Hardcover book combining the Player’s Handbook and Game Master’s Guide.
$35 Trudvang Chronicles Artbook
$15 Plastic Runes

KS Exclusives:
The base game automatically comes with two expansions, Lost Stories and Wildland. Lost Stories is KS-exclusive, and includes 27 miniatures and 10 one-shot stories/scenarios. In addition, the Muspelhelm and Thorn Beast Expansions are KS-Exclusive, as are the Plastic Runes, Trudvang Chronicles, and Trudvang Chronicles Artbook. Most of the stretch goals are exclusive, but those are for figures and content in the already-noted KS-exclusive expansions.

All-In Total: In the continental U.S. you’re looking at $100 for the Legendary Pledge, $145 for the Adventurers set (assuming you don’t feel the need for the gameplay-extraneous Chronicles and Artbook), plus an estimated $35 in shipping (this figure is rougher than usual since CMON is only estimating shipping for the base pledge, and not including the add-ons), for a total of $280.

Trudvang Legends completes its Kickstarter on Wednesday, August 14th and tentatively ships in December 2020.
