The purpose of Kickstart This! is to alert our readers to Kickstarter campaigns entering their final week. These are the pick of the Kickstarter litter in our opinion, and if we could, we’d be personally backing every last one of these.

So take a look at these campaigns if they haven’t yet crossed your radar!

*Kickstart This! will be going on indefinite hiatus at the end of 2020. The Kickstarter-related content represented here (recommendations of current campaigns) has already been incorporated into the Twice-Monthly Update Videos. Kickstart This! #296: Bios: Mesofauna & Galenus

“Bios:Mesofauna is an alternative Bios:Megafauna. That is, it starts and ends at the same time. Same terrestrial settings. The setting is the same, only the animals are smaller.”

Kickstart This! #291: For Sale Autorama & For Sale: Advisors Expansion

“For Sale Autorama is a quick game about buying and selling vehicles: cars, motorcycles, RVs, semi-trucks, etc. During the game’s three distinct phases, players first bid to hire advisors, with those advisors then assisting them in the other two phases of the game, when the players purchase several vehicles, then attempt to sell them for the greatest profit possible. For Sale: Advisors adds a third phase to the classic game For Sale, with players starting the game by bidding to hire advisors who will then assist in the second and third phases of the game when players acquire houses, then sell them.”

Kickstart This! #290: High Rise: The UltraPlastic Edition

“You and your opponents are constructing skyscrapers in a somewhat unreputable city. You’ll move around the board on a one-way track, choosing any unoccupied space ahead of you and doing its action, and waiting for everyone to pass you until you take your next action. As you play, you’ll be frequently tempted to enhance your actions, but whenever you do, you will gain Corruption. This can give you an edge over your opponents, and it can also periodically penalize you if you gain too much. You can win games with little Corruption, and you can win games with a lot of Corruption; it all depends on the decisions you make relative to your opponents.”

“Take on the roles of leaders of a small colony of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world that was hit by a severe ice age. Their duty is to effectively manage both its infrastructure and citizens. The core gameplay will be brutal, challenging, and complex, but easy to learn. The citizens won’t just be speechless pieces on the board. Society members will issue demands and react accordingly to the current mood, so every decision and action bears consequences.”
